We all know that spring cleaning is no small task. Throughout the year even the cleanest of houses needs some extra TLC come springtime. Below are some tips to make the daunting task of spring cleaning an efficient big success.
1. Do a Walk Through - Walk around your home and make a list of spaces that look cluttered, areas that get missed during your regular weekly cleaning where the grime has built up, and things that need some elbow grease and at least one annual deep cleaning.
2. Make a Plan - Checklists are key to accomplishing all of your spring cleaning tasks. It always feels good to check a task off once it is complete!
3. Figure Out What You Forgot - Some cleaning tasks that are often overlooked or put off include: ceiling fans and light fixtures, blinds/curtains, vents, windows and window tracks, the inside and outside of kitchen cabinets and drawers, underneath and behind large furniture pieces and appliances including the inside of all small and large appliances, inside closets, and pantries. Be sure to include getting rid of any clothes that are worn out or no longer fit you and throwing away any expired food from the pantry, refrigerator. and freezer
4. Gather the Right Tools - An extendable duster or lightweight ladder, all purpose cleaner, scrub brushes, several micro fiber cloths, window cleaning supplies, vacuum and attachments, mop, cleaning caddy big enough to store all of your cleaning supplies, and mop/rinse water bucket.
5. Prepare the Space - Tidy and remove any items from surfaces (shelves, counters, etc) keeping only what you really love.
6. Let Fresh Air In - At the first sign of warm sunny weather open windows throughout your home for a few hours each day to rid it of the stale air that has filled the spaces during the colder months.
7. Clean from Top to Bottom - Save time by cleaning from the top of each room to the bottom and from one side to the other to avoid deep cleaning any space more than once.
8. Budget your Time - Be realistic about the time you have to clean and choose a task from your checklist that you can clean within that timeframe. If spring cleaning is not something you are able or willing to fit in your schedule then hire someone to help!
9. Record your Progress - Take a photo of your space before you started cleaning, after 10 minutes, and after 30 minutes. You'll be amazed at what progress you can make in such a short time.
10. Celebrate! - You don't have to wait until all of your tasks have been checked off to celebrate! Be sure to give yourself a pat on the back for your small spring cleaning successes too!
