Getting Around Summit County

For those of you who have never been to Summit County, Colorado well you’re in for a treat! Situated on the Continental Divide only about 65 miles from downtown Denver when you arrive you will be in the midst of endless inspiring views, and historic towns where outdoor recreation opportunities are boundless. This is the place I feel incredibly lucky to call home after moving here over 15 years ago.

FREE Summit Stage

Another huge perk of Summit County for both locals and visitors alike is our totally FREE county wide public bus system called the Summit Stage. The Summit Stage not only connects all of our neighborhood, towns, and resort areas to one another but also offers commuter routes to areas outside of our county including Lake County (Leadville), and Park County (Alma and Fairplay) where a high density of our workforce lives.

The in-county routes operate once an hour with the commuter routes operating less frequently.

Summit Stage maps, routes, stops, and times can be located HERE

The Free Summit Stage REAL-Time phone App can be located HERE

Buses used to run every 30 minutes during peak season, however our driver shortage has limited service to once an hour, which seems to still work well for most.

Remember to thank your driver!

Uber/Lyft

Private rides and ride share programs such as Uber and Lyft also service Summit County. There are even Ubers and Lyfts that are equipped to safely transport ski and snowboard gear along with their passengers. They are appropriately called “Uber Ski” and Lyft “Ski Rack Mode”. It is important to keep in mind that there seems to be more of a need than the drivers we have can fulfill, so you should not depend 100% on this as an option.

Breckenridge Free-Ride

Once in Breckenridge there is another free bus/trolley system that operates throughout the town of Breckenridge. Breck Free-Ride schedule and route information can be found HERE.

Travel By Bike!

Breck began a newE-Ride Bike Share program in 2023. This program is designated for people needing to get around Breck for a period of 30 mins or less and aimed towards those requiring one way travel.

Many local sporting goods shops rent fully "man powered" bikes, E-Pedal Assist, and E-Bikes. Rentals are available throughout the county for all ages and abilities.

Special Transportation Needs?

Most special or pre-booked transportation needs can be arranged with one of the many private shuttle services that operate throughout Summit County. This is a great option for wedding parties, bachelor and bachelorette parties, company parties, and group or family transportation needs, especially when a schedule and timetable need to be adhered to.

There is a long list of companies that offer these types of services, but I’ve provided a list below to get your search started.
