Driving To Breckenridge
We recommend going carless once you arrive in Breckenridge, but if you decide to drive here from either your home or rent a car from one of the nearby airports it's important that you arrive in a vehicle that is not only large enough to accommodate all of the people, gear, and baggage in your party, but also that your vehicle is well equipped to travel over oftentimes snow packed high elevation mountain passes.
Colorado mountain driving directions from Google Maps or other web based map apps can oftentimes lead you astray. We recommend getting detailed driving directions from your place of accommodation in Breckenridge prior to your departure.

Car Rental
Some travelers choose to fly into one of the airports in Colorado and rent a vehicle to get to and from their destination. Mountain driving is not for everyone and frankly not all vehicles are suited to navigate our roads, especially during the winter months. If you choose to rent a vehicle to explore our area I highly recommend it is AWD or 4WD, has higher than average clearance, and make sure to check that the tires have more than adequate tread. Also, check with your accommodation to assure whatever vehicle you plan to arrive to our area in is well suited for the drive. It is not uncommon for neighborhood roads and driveways to be steep and ice packed November through April.
