Apartments

Summit County has several (mostly small) apartment complexes. All of the complexes in Summit County have long wait lists, so are not good resources for those with an immediate housing need. If you plan to stay in the county for a year plus they may be worth investigating. The same can’t be said for apartment complexes located outside the boundaries of Summit County, however remember that securing housing outside of Summit County typically requires traveling over a mountain pass which can pass can lead to travel whoas, especially for those of you who plan to commute to and from Summit for work.

It’s also important to note that some apartments have restrictions on who can rent based on various differing criteria such as Area Median Income (AMI),  full-time area employment, and/or student requirements.

Common Long Term Rental Obstacles

  • Pets - May condo complexes in the area forbid pets. Some for owners, but most for any tenants, short or long term.

  • Season - More rentals typically become available in the off season, both spring and fall when there is less going on in the high country.

  • Budget - The cost of owning a home and the cost of living is high in our area. On top of that the long term rental market is competitive. All of this means that the cost to rent is also elevated. Many rentals require 3 months rent up front (first, last and deposit).

  • Your Current Location - Many home owners and property managers prefer to rent to tenants that are in Summit County, travel to our the area specifically to search out somewhere to live, and/or have already started working locally. This can make it challenging for anyone moving here for work, especially temporary seasonal positions.
